Transfer Program


Purpose: This degree prepares you for transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree in music.

Program Information: The Associate of Arts degree in Visual and Performing Arts - Music Specialization at Piedmont Virginia Community College prepares you for transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree. This program also serves the needs of artists and musicians who wish to improve their skills and broaden their knowledge in the fine arts.

Transfer Information: PVCC has guaranteed transfer agreements with top colleges and universities that guarantee admission to PVCC graduates who meet specific academic transfer criteria.

Students in all degree programs are required to take at least one Civic Engagement (CE) course to graduate.

Total minimum credits: 61


A list of courses that fulfills the requirements for Humanities, Mathematics, Science w/Laboratory and Social Science Electives can be found on the Transfer Course Electives  page. To meet the humanities elective requirement for this program, no more than one introductory foreign language course (101 or 102 level) may be used.

Foreign Language Elective: Students who have satisfactorily completed two years of foreign language in high school may test for advanced placement into the second year of the foreign language.

Foreign Language or Elective: Students should complete up to eight semester hours of Applied Music, which can include chorus and ensemble. Foundation courses for music are MUS 136 , MUS 137  MUS 138  MUS 141  and applied music courses. Students who wish to transfer to the University of Virginia or the College of William and Mary need to take foreign language through the 202 level.
