Transfer Program


Purpose: This degree prepares you for transfer to a four-year institution to complete a baccalaureate degree in a scientific discipline.

Program Requirements: The major emphasis in this curriculum is on mathematics, the biological sciences, and the physical sciences. However, the curriculum also includes electives in humanities and social sciences so that the student can select the appropriate courses for his or her pre-professional or scientific program as required in the first two years of the prospective four-year college or university degree. Students must become knowledgeable about the requirements of the major departments in the college or university to which transfer is contemplated and also consult with their academic advisor. Upon satisfactory completion of the four-semester program, the graduate will be awarded the associate of science degree in physical and natural sciences.

Transfer Information: PVCC has guaranteed transfer agreements with top colleges and universities that guarantee admission to PVCC graduates who meet specific academic transfer criteria.

Students in all degree programs are required to take at least one Civic Engagement (CE) course to graduate.

A list of courses that fulfills the requirements for History, Humanities, Mathematics, Science w/Laboratory, Social Science Electives and Transfer Electives can be found on the Transfer Course Electives  page. To meet the humanities elective requirement for this program, no more than one introductory foreign language course (101 or 102 level) may be used.

BIO 106 CHM 101 ,  NAS 131 NAS 132 , and PHY 100  cannot be used to satisfy the Science w/Laboratory in this degree program. Students planning to transfer as biology majors should take BIO 101  and BIO 102  in their first year. Students planning to transfer as chemistry majors should take CHM 111  and CHM 112  in their first year.  BIO 141  and BIO 142  are recommended for students planning to transfer in pre-professional programs such as Nursing, Medicine, Dentistry, Physical Therapy or Physician Assistant programs.
