SUR 145 - Surgical Care Skills I Course ID 135467 Credits 3
Introduces principles of aseptic technique, sterilization, disinfection and antisepsis including environment safety and control, CDC and OSHA requirements. Presents packaging, storing, and dispensing surgical supplies, principles of wound healing including types, stages, and complications; types, preparation and care of surgical supplies, packing, dressings, catheters, drains, tubes, supplies, and equipment; classifications of instruments, sutures and needles. Describes responsibilities related to the scrub and circulating roles. Provides students practical experience in the operating room.
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 6 hours. Total 8 hours per week.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Surgical Technology Program. Corequisite: SUR 140
